Last Saturday Cookstown Olympic played hosts to Ballyclare Comrades Res and after a tight match lost two one. Things started well for Olympic and they were one up after five minutes when after a series of corners from Ryan O'Neill a Liam Mullan header was blocked by the keeper but Jonny O'Neill was on hand to finish. Olympic keeper Jamie O'Neill then pulled off a good save on 10 minutes and then both midfields started to cancel each other out. Ryan Devlin then had a shot saved after 30 minutes but Ballyclare then rattled the Cookstown bar five minutes later. Two minutes later and Conor O'Reilly put Richard McMenemy through but he shot wide and then Ballyclare equalised on 41 minutes when they gained a penalty decision. The second half was a very intense cup tie with both teams pushing forward and defending heavily when required. However it was a tale of two free kicks that sorted out the match. Ballyclare scored theirs after 70 minutes but then their keeper pulled off a brilliant finger tip save 5 minutes later to deny Mark Loughran the equaliser. Team Jamie O'Neill, D Campbell, E McSloy, L Mullan, Jonny O'Neill, C O'Hare, L Hoy, C O'Reilly, R Devlin, R McMenemy, R O'Neill. Subs M Meenan, M Loughran, P McVey and D McCabe. Next Saturday Cookstown Olympic will host FC Larne in the league at Beechway with a 2pm kick off.
