The club was founded in 1996 as Sperrin Olympic and played Junior football in Division 2 of the Coleraine league. Promotion to Division 1 as runners-up in Division Two in 1996/1997 quickly followed.
In 1998 the club won the Kelly Memorial Cup and the Norman Leonard Trophy in 1998 and also in1999.
Also in 1999 we moved up to the higher standard of Intermediate football and joined the Ballymena and Provincial Intermediate league at which we continue to now play.
The Norman Leonard Trophy was won again in 2002.
The club has had some success in the cups in the Ballymena Provincial league beating Dunloy in the 2007/2008 season by three goals to one to win the O’Gorman Cup and then in the 2008/2009 winning the McReynolds Cup beating Mosside four two in the final.
In the 2001/2002 season we formed a reserve team called Cookstown Olympic Colts to play at Junior level and they entered the Mid Ulster League Division 4 moving up on promotion to Division 3 and then up to Division 2 in 2003 as winners of Division 3.
The 2005/2006 season saw the formation of a Junior Division in the Ballymena and Provincial league and we moved our Colts team to this league as we believed it would be a better standard of football.
Also in the 2005/2006 season we changed our clubs name from Sperrin to Cookstown Olympic so that we could be more easily identifiable as being based in Cookstown and therefore more appealing to local sponsors, players and supporters.
